With warm weather upon us and hot weather right around the corner, homeowners are wise to prepare their homes for the coming spring and summer months.
To help you prepare your home, our team here at Mason Heating & Air created a list of tips to prepare for the coming seasons.
Don’t forget A/C maintenance
Before turning on your air conditioner this summer, make sure it’s ready. You can start by clearing any debris, shrubs, or furniture from your outdoor AC unit. This will ensure that it doesn’t overheat and create airflow problems throughout the HVAC system. For optimal use of your unit and to save you on energy costs and ensure the unit runs all summer, now is the time to schedule your A/C tune up. Remember when it comes to seasonal maintenance, it always pays to be proactive with your HVAC system, rather than being reactive.
Check Up on Smoke Detectors
Smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors are literal lifesavers.
However, they only work when they are functioning properly. Checking them and testing them can be done any time of the year, but if you haven’t checked it off the list in the past 12 months, then be sure to do it this spring.
Have Your Gutters Cleaned
When it comes to gutter maintenance, the less debris left behind in your gutters from fall and winter, the better. While gutter cleaning isn’t the cleanest nor the most fun job on the list, it’s definitely essential to the value of your home. Water runoff caused by overflowing gutters can cause countless problems with your siding and foundation. If you aren’t experienced working from heights, however, it’s best to hire a professional.
Have Roof Checked
Heavy snowfall is always worrisome for homeowners because of the effects it can have on your roofing. Additionally, any roof damage will make your HVAC system work harder. So make sure to have someone do a quick check-up on the condition of your roof. Or, if you suspect any problems off the bat, be sure to call a professional to do an inspection.
